Description

This adorable looking fox-like animal is not a fox, but is in fact a Dhole! Coming from South east Asia, the Dhole is currently listed as "Endangered", whereas most fox species are considered "Least/no consern" at best to "pest" at worst (try telling a farmer that a fox is an adorable lump of cuddle. It wont go well for you. Largely because farmers livestock is pestered by foxes or even attacked and killed! But also because foxes smell really REALLY bad!). Dholes are very social animals (there's another sleeping in the corner out of shot, and shortly after I took this photo, another came along and sat on this individuals head!) and live in large groups. They are extremily fearful of humans in the wild though a large pack might pick up the courage to, maybe, get a peak at one. The Dhole normally feasts on the FLESH OF UNFORTUNATE UNGULATES THAT SUFFERED THE WRATH OF THEIR TEETH! MWUAHAHAHA! First, the Dholes single out their prey and force it into a chase. The Dholes, like most hunting dogs, favour not speed but endurance, stamina and tactics. After following their prey for many miles, it will eventually tire and collapse. At which point the much fitter Dholes simply strole upto the unfortunate Ungulate and DISEMBOWEL THEM WITH TEETH AND CLAW! MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Having killed their prey, the Dholes will allow their cubs to feed first, which is generally unusual for a social canidae (As far as I am aware, only the African painted dog behaves similarly). Then, of course, the alphas feed after the pups and the betas after that in a typical heirachy.
